CEO denies rumors of possible $300-400 million acquisition by an Asian
company | Viber CEO Talmon Marco firmly denied a report by the Calcalist
financial newspaper that claimed an unnamed Asian instant messaging
company had been looking to acquire the popular mobile messenger. Asked
to comment on the possible deal, allegedly worth $300 to $400 million,
Mr. Marco said he had "no idea" where such a rumor came from.
Among the purported buyers were the makers and owners of Asian chat applications WeChat (Tencent Holdings), Line (LINE Corp.), and KakaoTalk (KAKAO Inc.).
Viber is a free messaging and voice service. It runs on Windows, Mac OS, Android, BlackBerry OS, iOS, Series 40, Symbian, Bada, Windows Phone, and Linux devices. It launched on the iPhone on Dec 2, 2010, and has 200 million registered users as of May 7, 2013.
