Report from Korea reveals that LG gets the exclusive to produce displays for the Apple iWatch 

A published report out of Korea on Monday states that LG Display has been given the exclusive task of producing displays for the upcoming Apple iWatch. According to the report, mass production of the screens will take place from July through September of this year, with an initial run of 2 million units. The glass will measure 1.52 inches and will be produced using the same flexible display technology that the Korean manufacturer uses on its LG G Flex handset. The glass will be P-OLED, or Plastic OLED. This obviously suggests a curved design for the Apple iWatch display. 

We should also mention that this report should be taken with more than the usual amount of skepticism, considering that the original source of the story has since pulled it for unknown reasons. The stated July through September time period for mass production of the glass for Apple's timepiece would coincide with earlier talk of problems Apple has been suffering with the manufacturing process. Reports from the upstream supply chain indicate that Apple's production yields have been a miserable 50% for the watch thus far. That means out of every 10 units that goes through the assembly line, 5 watches roll off the line unable to pass quality testing. And in trying to get the yields down to an acceptable level, it would seem that Apple has no choice but to push back its release of the device until late this year.
