Reports from China said the Apple iWatch will make its long
anticipated release in the third quarter of this year. The device will
be manufactured by Quanta Computer while TPK will be responsible for the
touchscreen on the wearable. Taiwan based chip design firm Richtek,
will also have a role to play in the production of the wearable. The
watch's processor is designed by Cupertino based Apple, but will be
produced by the company's chief rival, Samsung.
According to the report, Apple is asking that suppliers start delivering orders in August, so that Apple can meet its internal time schedule for delivering the iWatch. The tech titan is expecting plenty of demand for its timepiece. The report adds that Apple is planning to ship 65 million units of the iWatch in 2014. No pricing information was mentioned.The Apple iWatch is expected to offer various health-related functions.
