The latest US smartphone market share figures published by comScore reveal that Windows Phone has overtaken BlackBerry to snatch third place.
According to comScore, Windows Phone currently owns about 3.2% of the market share in the US, while BlackBerry owns 3.1%.
Windows Phone’s market share was stayed consistent from October 2013 until January 2014, while BlackBerry fell from 3.6% to 3.1%, representing a drop of 0.5%.
It also seems that Android has dipped ever so slightly, dropping from 52.2% to 51.7%, while Apple saw a slight increase from 40.6% to 41.6%.
The firm also identified the top apps installed on smartphones: Facebook (77 per cent), Google Play (52.4 per cent), YouTube (49.7 per cent), Google Search (48 per cent) and Pandora (46.4 per cent).
Smartphone manufacturer BlackBerry has struggled to stay afloat in the market following the huge success of Apple’s iPhone.
BlackBerry recently suffered another blow after a large number of T-Mobile customers traded in BlackBerry’s for iPhones and Android phones as part of a trade in deal.
With Apple’s market share on the increase it will be interesting to see how the upcoming release of the Samsung Galaxy S5 effects Android’s chunk of the market.
