BlackBerry to report Q4 and fiscal 2014 earnings on March 28th

Not that it really matters considering that BlackBerry's new CEO is trying for a fresh start, but the company will report its fourth quarter and fiscal 2014 earnings on March 28th at 8am. Considering that the BlackBerry Z3 won't launch until next month, and the BlackBerry Q20 is scheduled for release later this year, the fourth quarter will probably be more of the same.
That means we probably will see more red ink, and some more write offs of dust collecting inventory that is not moving in BlackBerry's warehouse. Actually, this would be a perfect time for CEO John Chen to take some more charges against unsold inventory. Usually when a new regime takes over a major corporation, they take a series of write offs just to clear the air. Not only can the new CEO blame the old one for the huge loss, it makes the bar a lot lower and helps the company report a huge profit increase once business starts to turn.In addition, Chen has a goal to monetize BBM. BlackBerry is testing sponsored channels for the discussion group feature on BBM, along with sponsored invites. In certain Beta Zone versions of BBM, the sponsored invitations can be found in the Invites section of BBM, while the sponsored channels can be seen in the Updates section. We won't see the fruits of that labor until possibly the next quarter or the following period.
