Firefox Launcher for Android teased

Firefox Launcher for Android teased, aims to suggest apps that will be useful throughout the day

One of the more popular ways to customize an Android phone is to replace the stock launcher with a new, third-party launcher that provides more options for personalization. Some examples of third-party launchers include Nova Launcher, Action Launcher and Go Launcher EX. Now we can add another name to the list, because Mozilla today offered up a preview of its new Firefox Launcher for Android.

The Firefox Launcher for Android is the result of a collaboration between Mozilla and EverythingMe, a contextual computing company from Israel. The new launcher is focused on helping the you to access apps that are already downloaded, ones that you might be interested in checking out and websites that it thinks you may want at any given time. In the screenshot above, the launcher is display a row of apps that it thinks will be useful to the user in the morning, including Flipboard and CNN for news and The Weather Channel for checking the conditions outdoors.

Performing a search with Firefox Launcher for Android will present related apps that are installed on your device as well as web results like Wikipedia and IMDB. Searching for a general term like "News" will bring up cards related to that topic with popular stories from the day.

Firefox Launcher for Android looks like it offers a fairly clean user interface, and it'll be interesting to see how well the predictive app suggestions work once the launcher learns from its user. The good news is that we may not have to wait long to give Firefox Launcher for Android a go for ourselves, as TechCrunch says that the launcher will be available for download "in the coming weeks." Mozilla also plans to share updates on Firefox Launcher for Android as development progresses and it gets closer to the beta testing phase, so expect to hear more about this new kid on the Android launcher block soon.

Do you use a third-party launcher on your Android device? Based on what we know about it so far, do you think that Firefox Launcher for Android could become your go-to launcher?
