Rumours that Apple is going to release new smartphones in more than one size just won't go away. The latest report states that there's going to be a 4.7in iPhone 6 launched alongside a brand-new 5.6in phablet.
According to Taiwan's Economic Daily News Apple will launch the new device alongside the iPhone 6 and it won't carry the iPhone branding. It's not clear from the report what the new device would be called, although it's possible that it would fall under the iPad range.
The new device is said to be experimental, as Apple tries out different screen sizes. It makes sense in a lot of ways, as large screens are becoming a common feature on the Android competition: the Samsung Galaxy S5 will have a 5.25in screen. With the iPhone 6 said to have 'just' a 4.7in screen, a second phablet device to compete with the larger Android devices would let Apple compete better here.
Similar claims have been made before, with rumours that there would be two iPhone 6 models, each with a different screen size. All the reports agree that the new phones will use Sapphire glass to create tough, scratch-resistant screens.
Of course, none of this information is confirmed and is purely speculation and rumour. Many of the rumours about multiple screen sizes are likely to have occurred because Apple was said to be experimenting with screen sizes in order to find one that worked. It's still more than likely that Apple will just pick a single screen size for the iPhone 6 and release just that model.
